ELIZABETH MITCHELL and YOU ARE MY FLOWER in concert

2:00pm, Sunday, June 3rd
Free, first come first serve

With her honeyed voice, quiet spirit, and indie-folk style, Elizabeth Mitchell is not your typical kiddie-music singer. Mitchell sings traditional American folk tunes, original songs, and even Velvet Underground covers: It’s music for all ages that appeals to kids thanks to its approachable melodies and calm pacing. Advocating the importance of singing to one’s children, she performs with her musician husband Daniel Littleton and daughter Storey, along with violinist Jean Cook and a host of talented musical friends..Performers

In As You Like It, Rosalind, Shakespeare's most breathtaking heroine, and her boyfriend Orlando find themselves in the enchanted Forest of Arden, where all the world's a stage, and where sudden infatuation is as confusing as it is beautiful.  Along with other "country copulatives," they discover that nothing transforms, redeems, or enriches experience quite as powerfully as love. As You Like It has everything we adore about Shakespearean comedy: mistaken identity, cross-dressing, madness, mayhem, rage, lust, laughter, and of course plenty of romance, both heartbreaking and joyous.

Tickets to Shakespeare in the Park are FREE and are distributed, two per person, at the Information booth on Gazebo Road at 1:00 on the day of the performance which takes place at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

In honor of five decades at the Delacorte, The Public Theater is launching the 50th Anniversary Fellows Program to help support free Shakespeare in the Park for years to come.  For more information on the Fellows Program, please call 212-967-7555 or visit the SUPPORT page. http://shakespeareinthepark.org/support/

The Delacorte Theater in Central Park is accessible by entering at 81st Street and Central Park West or at 79th Street and Fifth Avenue.

GUSTAVO GALVAN  Shopping Bag Intricacies

June 13 to July 15, 2012  Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art

Featuring eleven wearable structures made from a variety of found materials, such as deconstructed plastic bottles, shopping bags, gold leaf and some intricate weavings by hand. A performance in the Richmond County Savings Foundation Tuscan Garden  used live models to demonstrate the versatility and adaptability of the unique designs. The artist’s goal is to change the way these materials are understood, repurposing and reusing them as components of an artistic design. The finished pieces emphasize the beauty and aesthetic potential of everyday materials.

Galvan participated in SHARP, the Snug Harbor Artist Residency Program, in April and May.

Shopping Bag Intricacies is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Edward & Sally Van Lier Fund through New York Community Trust.
