Worm Bins Made Easy

Want to learn how to compost without outdoor space during the cold winter months? Let the NYC Compost Project on Staten Island show you how to create compost indoors with red wiggler worms. Join Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden and Make Music New York and others to present Winter Solstice Festival 2012 at the Snug Harbor campus on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Winter Solstice Festival 2012 will include opera, pop and rock music as well as spoken word presentations and children's activities. In addition, the Noble Maritime Collection, Staten Island Museum, The Art Lab, Staten Island Children's Museum and the Island Sounds exhibition will extend their hours from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Admission to all events except the Majikal Musical Winter Solstice Celebration is FREE.
Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden will kick off its roster of 2013 events on January 12 with a concert by the Vincent Ruggieri Jazz Quartet and an exhibition of the work of two unique artists from the Snug Harbor Artist Residency Program (SHARP). The jazz concert, the first in the Island Sounds Music Mash-Up series will be from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Main Hall, Building C. The SHARP exhibition will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in Building G. Refreshments will be served. Admission to both events is free. The Snug Harbor campus is at 1000 Richmond Terrace in Staten Island.

An Evening with Ernest Wright Jr.
The evening features a conversation with Ernest Wright Jr., a celebrated pioneer of Doo-Wop music, who will discuss career highlights and answer questions from the audience. The Music Mash-Up series is a compliment to the Island Sounds: A 500 Year Music Mash-Up exhibition, which celebrates the talented musicians of Staten Island. Snug Harbor is located at 1000 Richmond Terrace in Staten Island. Admission is free. Contributions to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief efforts will be accepted.
