Looking for new and interesting ways to introduce your students to environmental sustainability? Attend the NYC Compost Project on Staten Island Teacher Open House! You will learn about composting activities that can be incorporated into a variety of curricula. Join Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden and Make Music New York and others to present Winter Solstice Festival 2012 at the Snug Harbor campus on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

Winter Solstice Festival 2012 will include opera, pop and rock music as well as spoken word presentations and children's activities. In addition, the Noble Maritime Collection, Staten Island Museum, The Art Lab, Staten Island Children's Museum and the Island Sounds exhibition will extend their hours from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Admission to all events except the Majikal Musical Winter Solstice Celebration is FREE.

Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden will kick off its roster of 2013 events on January 12 with a concert by the Vincent Ruggieri Jazz Quartet and an exhibition of the work of two unique artists from the Snug Harbor Artist Residency Program (SHARP). The jazz concert, the first in the Island Sounds Music Mash-Up series will be from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Main Hall, Building C. The SHARP exhibition will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in Building G. Refreshments will be served. Admission to both events is free. The Snug Harbor campus is at 1000 Richmond Terrace in Staten Island.
