Staten Island, NY: The Harbor Lights Theater Company (HLTC), a professional not-for-profit company under the leadership of Artistic Director Tamara Jenkins and Associate Artistic Director Jay Montgomery, announces local auditions for THE KING AND I to be performed in the Music Hall at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Gardens, November 2^nd through the 18^th, 2012.

Children and adults who sing, dance and act are welcome to audition. Performers of Asian descent will be given priority but other ethnicities are encouraged to audition as well. Those interested in auditioning should bring sheet music in the correct key and be prepared to dance. Sides will be provided when needed. Auditions will take place on September 8^th 2012 at Veteran’s Memorial Hall, Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Gardens, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301.

12:00PM Children ages 5 -15 who sing.  Especially seeking children of Asian descent, but all are welcome to audition. Seeking ROYAL CHILDREN, PRINCE CHULALONGHORN & LOUIS LEONOWENS (Caucasian).

1:30 PM Female Singers  Seeking WIVES , TUPTIM, Especially Seeking Strong Legit Singers.

3:00PM Male Actors  Seeking  KRALAHOME (Asian), INTERPRETER (Asian) and CAPTAIN ORTON/EDWARD RAMSEY (Caucasian).

4:00 PM MALE &FEMALE DANCERS who sing for various roles in the ballet

DANCE CALL LOCATION: Studio 202, Building G, Snug Harbor. Especially seeking Asian dancers with strong technique.

Harbor Lights’ THE KING AND I will be directed by Broadway Veteran and long-time cast member of Sesame Street Alan Muraoka and choreographed by Broadway Veteran and Joseph Jefferson Award winner Lainie Sakakura. Both Mr. Muraoka and Ms. Sakakura were in the latest revival of the show on Broadway. The cast of 45 actors will feature six Broadway veterans alongside local adults and children. This dramatic, richly textured and ultimately uplifting tale of East versus West features a soaring score by Rodgers and Hammerstein. THE KING AND I is the final show of Harbor Light’s third season as Staten Island’s only professional Equity theater company – bringing Broadway to Staten Island!
