Education

Snug Harbor Cultural Center’s Education Department has a long history of producing quality humanities programming based on the New York State Learning Standards covering the English Language Arts, Social Studies and Visual and Performing Arts. Students have the opportunity to
develop their analytical skills in responding to various works of art in our gallery spaces, as well as through the examination of rich examples of architecture present at Snug Harbor. Ultimately, our goal is for students to move toward becoming informed adults and active consumers of culture.

Snug Harbor’s education programs are designed as interdisciplinary, hands-on experiences that enable youth to explore their creativity, discover their community, and learn classroom subjects in new ways. These lessons are rooted in the New York State Learning Standards and reflect the New York City Department of Education’s new Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Programs last 90 minutes and are adaptable to meet individual school needs and requests. Teacher packets are available to help prepare students and extend their learning
into other classroom activities.
