Adopt-A-School
"It has been the great fortune of Region 7's administrators, teachers and students to have had the opportunity to collaborate with the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and it's Education Department in recent years. Numerous schools in our region have collaborated with the Snug Harbor Cultural Center. Without exception, each collaboration has been productive and rewarding for our students."
Maria Palma, Region 7 Arts Supervisor
Snug Harbor is a major supporter of the NYC Education Department’s Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and recognizes that children thrive in an artistic environment. But with fewer funds for arts programs, administrators and teachers must carefully choose their off-campus learning experiences. Snug Harbor Cultural Center offers local schools extraordinary theatrical productions and quality arts in education programming.
As schools focus more resources on mandatory testing, less money and less time go into arts and enrichment programs. Your ongoing support in our educational programs and projects will enable us to continue to effectively bring the arts to the students of Staten Island. Our artist educators use the arts as a vehicle for fostering learning and discovery across core subject areas. They customize the curriculum of each residency to meet the school's curriculum goals and scheduling needs.
The Harbor’s educational programs continue to serve the 440,000 residents of Staten Island, including 50,000 students and 3,400 teachers of Region 7 (Staten Island and western Brooklyn). Your support and contributions provide critical support for arts in education programs for students throughout Staten Island.
Your donation will provide:
-
A customized arts-based curriculum and residency taught by a professional artist in which students explore the arts through hands-on projects. Although the typical residency is ten sessions, the Adopt a School program tailors residencies to mesh with each school's individual time and program preferences.
-
Resources and curriculum guides for the classroom teachers to supplement the tools used to teach the core subjects of math, science, language arts, social studies and technology with visual and design project-based tools and topics.
-
A field trip to the Snug Harbor Cultural Center for theatrical performances and hands on arts workshops.
